This Drug Awareness course is designed for young people, their families, health care professionals, youth workers, community groups, carers and volunteers who wish to gain an understanding of principles and practice of Drugs awareness.
The drugs and alcohol field has grown substantially in recent years with more than 30,000 people working in specialist drugs or alcohol related roles in the UK.
Our course provides an understanding of drug use and depressants, the history of drug use, drug terminology, drug categorisation and the main drugs laws. You will also gain an understanding of the effect of drug use on society and the workplace
You will also learn about the general and specific effects of drug use and gain an understanding of the effect of drugs use on society and the workplace, along with statistics on drugs use and the dangers of mixing drugs. You will find out about the ‘cycle of change’, three main methods of reducing drugs use and various interventions used.

Substance Abuse and Drug Awareness Course Content:
Unit-1 Introduction to Drug Use and Misuse
History of drug use; drug terms; differences between depressants, stimulants, hallucinogens and tranquillisers; potential effects that drugs have on individuals; understanding of the law in relation to drugs; effects of drugs in the work place; and statistics relating to drugs.
Unit-2 Dealing with Other Substances
Compare the differences between different types of dangerous substances; and understand the potential effects that dangerous substances can have on individuals.
Unit-3 Levels of Drug Use, Risks and Harm Reduction
Understand the different levels of drug dependency; stages of changing behaviour; and methods of harm reduction, including experimental, recreation, dependency, the cycle of change.
Unit-4 Types of Treatment Interventions Available
Understand what types of treatment interventions are available; Identify national contacts which provide advice and information.
