Choosing a career
Career guidance is essential if you are having trouble deciding what will be the right career path for you. Our Career Services has a wealth of information to help you examine the options open to you and make an informed choice when it comes to choosing your career.
Qualification/Training
Learning new skills can give you the edge in a job interview, increase your confidence and help you shape your career. There are courses for everyone and there are flexible options to fit in with your lifestyle.
A qualification is proof that you have knowledge or a skill in a certain area. If you want to prepare for a particular area of work such as business, media, and health and social care you could do work-related courses such as Applied GCSEs, Applied A-Levels, NVQs or BTEC courses.
Our advisors are on hand to find the best course for you, matching your career aspirations with learning that’s convenient for you.
CV
A CV is essential when looking for a job; it’s your chance to show an employer you've got the skills and experience required, and that you’re the right person for the job.
Whether you're writing your first CV or updating your existing one, you may have questions about what to include, how to word your CV and how to set it out. Our advisors can guide you to building a CV that stands out from the crowd.
Application
Our career service provides support when making job applications. Many employers use application forms rather than CVs because it ensures they learn all the right information about you and allows them to compare applicants more easily.
If you’re filling in an application form, you’ll still need to work out the best way to describe your skills and experience. This is why completing an application form often takes just as much time and effort as writing a CV and covering letter. Our advisors can support you with practical information that gets the best from your application.
Interview
We can give you advice on how to prepare for interviews from our Career Service advisors. They can help you to figure out what employers are looking for and help you to sell your experience. They can also help you to prepare, keeping in mind of the do’s and don’ts to ensure you perform well in interviews. Our advisors will help you to research the role and organisation, and prepare evidence and examples of your skills and competencies.
On-going Support
Youth Enlightenment Service provides on-going support to help you work through all five stages and set you on your career path. If you've already applied for some jobs but need help with a particular stage of the process, our advisors can support you with your query.
Our careers service advisors can help you make the right decisions for you about your work and learning.
